ABSTRACT

Betty had been working on salary comparisons between men and women using UC-Berkeley payroll data. In Betty's view, her research on academic women was action-oriented. In early August, she completed a form from the center for continuing education of women. One of the people who participated with Betty at one of the statewide workshops for the Chancellors' Advisory Committees on the Status of Women (System CCSW) was a sociology PhD candidate. The candidate worked for March Fong who was a Democrat and member of the California Legislature. In August, the Chancellor's CSAW asked the chancellor to address advisory committee structures, budget matters, and reporting structures for the affirmative action coordinator. Betty noted he expected the campus affirmative action plan would be ready to send to HEW by August 27. Betty's salary work was getting noticed. Individual women on the Berkeley campus began preparing cases for salary adjustments.
