ABSTRACT

Rotor position information is essential for the field orientation control of PMSMs. The position sensors are, in general, expensive and fragile under mechanical shock, increasing the drive cost. The sensorless control is a signal processing technique that aims at eliminating the position sensor. It utilizes only measured electrical quantities such as motor currents and voltages. Since it is an estimation algorithm set in a processor, it reduces the system cost. Various sensorless control techniques are widely used in home appliances, transportation system, cranes, etc., where the cost pressure is immense.
