ABSTRACT

This chapter describes the critical role played by humans in creating a secure and trustworthy digital environment for smart ‘Things.’ Any laxity in complying with individual responsibility by a stakeholder of the IoT ecosystem can bring security weaknesses into smart systems and can also cause intrusions into smart systems and theft of personal information. Such incidents can deflate user trust and confidence in this emerging technology if not acted upon by key stakeholders like governments, businesses, regulators, auditors, legal bodies and users. The collective intelligence of society will play a significant role in ensuring a safe and secure world of ‘Things.’
