ABSTRACT

One of the main issues in the field of nanodielectrics, in common with nanocomposites in general, is the reproducibility of the experimental results. In many studies, improved electrical/dielectric performance is achieved in nanocomposites compared to the equivalent neat polymers and this has been widely reported. However, adverse or no effects have been noted as well. To what extent are experimental results reproducible and which parameters affect the performance of nanocomposites and in turn the reproducibility of the results? Many phenomena such as dielectric response, conduction mechanisms, charge trapping and space charge accumulation, occurring in polymers are not yet completely understood, let alone those which occur in polymeric nanocomposites. The large number of involved parameters, including particle properties, sample morphology, and the “ill-defined” interaction between the nanofillers and the host polymer make a deep understanding of their behavior challenging.
