ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses protocols and procedures that should be implemented or become part of the established routine of security surveillance center personnel. It is important for security surveillance centers to stay abreast of new developments in the field and best practices to ensure that closed-circuit television (CCTV) monitoring and recording of activities are consistent with current standards and laws. The security surveillance center CCTV cameras should be audited on a regular basis and the results tracked. Each camera view should be inspected and verified via the live monitoring system to ensure that the picture quality is of a degree to identify subjects and is in proper preset position. When a CCTV camera is not working and is located in a high-risk area, it should be fixed as soon as possible. The security surveillance center should always have a regular power source and a redundant power source, usually a generator that is used to create emergency power during a power outage.
