ABSTRACT

The point of this quotation is that markets, economics, and technology have all become interconnected. Relatively simple identification technologies like barcodes, QR codes, and RFID tags facilitate trading and logistics management in ways never previously thought possible. And while a variety of service systems facilitate the operation of markets, some see that markets can be represented as systems. In this chapter we draw on the systems architecture framework concepts presented in chapter 3 to consider the myriad of systems of systems associated with the market perspective. We note that understanding how markets operate has become important in some artificial intelligence applications. We also introduce the concept of service-dominant logic, which is being promoted by some academics in the marketing and service sciences, and has a strong focus on delivering value.
