ABSTRACT

Over the last two decades, the proliferation of the Internet of Things has changed the way global business networks are operated, planned, and controlled. The internet offers enormous potential to supply chains, and entirely new methods for streamlining coordination between business partners, improving service quality and flexibility, and reducing operating costs. This chapter reviews how the internet is currently used in the business and engineering environments, and examines the major enabling technologies of internet-enabled global business networks. Open issues for developing internet-enabled global business networks are also discussed.
