ABSTRACT

Colony morphology is an important aspect in the detection of plant pathogenic bacteria in isolation plates. The plant pathogenic bacterial colonies usually develop after 48 hours of incubation while saprophytic non plant pathogenic bacterial colonies are observed after 24 hours or even in less incubation period. Generally plant pathogenic bacteria produce round, raised, glistering nonpigmented or pigmented colonies on nutrient agar medium or specialized medium. The colony type with colony pigment is an important characteristic of the bacterial genus and species of plant pathogenic bacteria. The different types of colonies are colony types, colony edge, internal colony structure, and colony pigment.
