ABSTRACT

Reliability Centered Maintenance-Reengineered (RCM-R®) is a team effort and it requires analysis performed by a team of people who are most familiar with the systems being analyzed. The RCM-R® process draws on knowledge of what the system under analysis is expected to do, how it fails to provide those functions, how it gets into those failed states, and what happens when they occur. Maintainers and reliability engineers will contribute failure modes and have a great deal of understanding of proactive maintenance technologies and capabilities. The outputs of RCM-R® need to be converted into forms, standard jobs, plans, inspection routes, and so on and entered into whatever management systems are in use to ensure execution of those decisions as intended. RCM-R® analysis meetings are also great events for knowledge transfer and capture of corporate memory. In many cases, companies opt to have facilitators from outside—usually from the same firm that delivers the RCM-R® training, and often, they use the actual instructor.
