ABSTRACT

In the previous chapter, we have introduced many technical aspects regarding the use of VR headsets. In this chapter, we are going to present a state of the art of some of the best known headsets that are already on the market or will be soon available. We will detail all the main characteristics of these devices, the software and the hardware when possible, to let the reader know their advantages and limitations. Thereby, the reader of this book may choose the best device to meet the needs of the application he wants to create. VR headsets may have many different uses and it seems very interesting to group them depending on their main functionality. For this, we relied on the Virtual Behavioural Primitives (VBPs) detailed in Chapter 2 by using the following classification: devices which are only used to observe the virtual environment while some others may also be used to move and act in this virtual environment.
