ABSTRACT

The dielectric used in tantalum capacitors is tantalum pentoxide (Ta20s) compound, which has high dielectric strength and high dielectric constant. The electrolyte is manganese dioxide, which is formed on the tantalum pentoxide dielectric layer. The pellet is coated with graphite which is followed by a layer of metallic silver, which acts as a solderable surface between the pellet and the enclosure can. This construction is shown in Figure 2-9.
