ABSTRACT

The method of recording this information may be varied. There may be nothing at all; the information may be handwritten on a scrap of paper; it may be neatly recorded in a workbook; it may be listed in a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet or some other common database package like Microsoft Access. There are specially written visually oriented databases designed specifically to record structured cabling systems and at the top of the evolutionary chain are intelligent patch panel systems linked to real-time dedicated databases. Whichever method is used there is a common set of philosophies described in various standards that attempt to lead the user into a logical and unified recording structure. These standards are:

• ISO/IEC 14763-1: Inform ation technology - Im plementation and operation o f customer premises cabling - Part 1: Administration.
