ABSTRACT
As users of lasers, we have to have some understanding of what the output beams are, how they can be focused, and how their properties can be measured. The wide variety of lasers used for material processing applications have a corresponding variety of output beam types, and a number of terms exist describing these beams. Gaussian, unstable resonator, loworder mode, M , K, and diffraction-coupled are a few of these terms.
