ABSTRACT

Electric motors convert electrical energy into mechanical energy by means of electromechanical energy conversion. They play a fundamental role in our industry, for power generation and also for the electric drive vehicles. Millions of electric machines are manufactured everyday from a few fractional horsepower to megawatt range and they are used in our everyday applications such as fans, pumps, household supplies, power tools, computers, vehicles, and so on. In the industry, more than 65% of the energy is consumed by electric machines. Almost all of the energy generation is performed by electric generators. Including the traction motors for electried vehicles, the global electric machine market is projected to be US$96.5 billion by 2018. By 2023, it is projected to have a need for 147.7 million electric motors just for traction applications, including cars, bikes, and also military vehicles [1].
