ABSTRACT
Electric power systems are more than 125 years old and their growth has been phenomenal due to the extensive use of electrical energy in industrial, commercial, and residential establishments. Although the initial application was for street lighting, the versatility of electrical energy is spurring new applications, including rail and road transportation with electric or hybrid vehicles. The development of information technology has resulted in new avenues for the utilization of quality power.
