ABSTRACT
In this chapter, we will review the development of direct methods based on energy functions for evaluation of transient stability of power systems with simplified models. In particular, the generators are represented by classical models and the loads by constant impedances. The simplified system models do not consider the presence of controllers either in generating stations or in the transmission network (HVDC and FACTS controllers).
