ABSTRACT

Propane (C3H8) is a saturated hydrocarbon with 26 electrons and the ground state is given by Boesten et al.(1994). The bond strength (C3H7-H) is 4.37 eV. It is weakly polar with a dipole moment of 0.084 D and an electronic polarizability of 6.998 × 10−40 F m2. The first ionization potential is 10.95 eV. The molecule has 27 vibrational modes out of which nine (ν1 through ν9) are totally symmetrical (Allan and Andric 1996). Vibrations of similar type tend to have similar frequencies. Selected vibrational energies of the molecule are shown in Table 117.1.
