ABSTRACT

Dichlorodifluoromethane (CCl2F2, Freon-12) is an electronattaching, polar gas with 58 electrons. The electronic polarizability is 8.82 × 10−40 F m2, the dipole moment is 0.51 D, and the ionization potential is 12.05 eV. Extensive review of literature in the gas has been published by Christophorou and Olthoff (2004) which is referred to extensively. The electronic excitation potential is ~7.0 eV (King and McConkey, 1978). The molecule has nine vibrational modes(Mann and Linder, 1992) as shown in Table 57.1.
