ABSTRACT

Today, electronic control units (ECUs), and especially their interoperation, are the driving force behind mostautomotiveinnovations.¥eyallowtheestablishmentofextendedandimprovedfunctionality withregardtosafety,reliability,environmentale§ciency,andcomfort(e.g.,combiningmultiplesensor informationtoacomprehensivepictureofthecar’ssurrounding).Inrecentyears,morethan50ECUs interconnectedwithdiªerentcommunicationsubsystemshavebecomecommon[H05].¥isinturnled tohigherdemandsoncommunicationresultinginastrongincreaseonthebustra§c.Infact,thecommunication subsystem became a bottleneck with regard to bandwidth and reliability.
