ABSTRACT

In this chapter the elementary functional modules of automation devices are de-

scribed. They are implemented on discrete electronic components: high-voltage transis-

tors and thyristors, and powerful reed switches. Today it is somewhat difficult to find

the descriptions of these devices since for the most part they are implemented by integrated microchips. However, as it turns out, interesting functional modules may be con-

structed without resorting to microchips, power supplies for them, optocouplers at their

input and output, amongst other difficulties. In fact, it is possible to simplify automation

devices significantly and to increase their reliability.
