Nanotechnology has created a tremendous amount of excitement among the research community and industry in the last decade. There are various optimistic projections about the size of the economy nanotechnology will be directly responsible for or in uence in another decade and beyond. Naturally then, there is a signi cant investment in research and development across the world to gain early advantages in creating intellectual property and commercial exploitation. There is also a strong realization about the need to educate the current and future generations of students and to provide continuing education to the practicing engineers and scientists about this emerging eld. Nanotechnology has been pronounced, in fact, to be the technology of the twenty- rst century and only time will tell how true this statement will turn out to be in the future.
