ABSTRACT

In this chapter, the authors develop a fuzzy diagnostic system to evaluate the motor control ability of cerebrovascular accident (CVA) patients. They analyse CVA patients according to the motor control abilities defined by kinetic signals. Traditionally, therapists used to train CVA patients according to the functional activities in daily life, such as from lying to sitting, from sitting to standing, and from standing to walking. Medical doctors usually assess the CVA patients based on Functional Independent Measurement (FIM) scores and Brunnstrom Stage. FIM scores are used to assess the independent ability of the subjects, and Brunnstrom Stage is used to assess the muscle control ability of the affected side. During the rehabilitative therapeutic activities, the assessment of motor control ability for CVA patients is very important. The kinetic state assessment system consists of rule base, database, and inference system.
