ABSTRACT

In this chapter, various types of management structures will be described and some general principles of process and people management will be provided. The goal is to help the nanotechnology entrepreneur to determine how he wants his company to be structured and run. Process management, a subset of which is project management, involves managing the activities of a number of different individuals all aimed at achieving a specic set of goals. People management, on the other hand, is about having the right people in place for each task and helping them do the best job they can. At the end of the chapter, other important management issues will be discussed: growth, hard times, and the management of multiple sites.
