      ABSTRACT

S sagitta The segment of a line between the vertex of a small curve and the chord joining the two symmetric ends of the curve, which is perpendicular to the chord. Kepler gave this name “sagitta” because of the resemblance of this line with an arrow. Its length measures the maximum elevation (depression) of the convex (concave) surface containing the arc.
