ABSTRACT

This chapter examines the hardware and software needs of computer systems for telemetering systems. It also examines some of the characteristics of payload software systems that support the necessary control and data processing functions and describes display and data entry design for telemetry and command operations. The telemetry database is the structure that holds incoming data for current display as well as for further processing to support data analysis. The interface design to support user data entry and efficient operations is very important in every system. Such systems are also referred to as man-machine interfaces or human-machine interfaces. The important aspect of the design is how to link the telemetry database to the display. An interrupt is a signal from a device connected to the computer that indicates that the computer needs to perform some type of service for the device. The computer controls industry has developed a standard for computer-based acquisition, control, and processing known as the PC-104 standard.
