ABSTRACT
In this chapter, we describe the financial context within which the dematerialization of means of payment is taking place. The first part of the chapter is dedicated to the “classical” forms of money and the means of payment in some developed countries. The second half corresponds to “emerging” monies, either in “electronic” or “virtual” forms.
