ABSTRACT

The focus of this chapter∗ is the application of the technique of Voronoi diagrams in the analysis and synthesis of biometric topological structures. Voronoi diagrams are one of the most studied structures in computational geometry. The design of topological structures using Voronoi diagrams concerns the topological characteristics of visual information; topological configurations; and topological primitives and their interconnections. There are several reasons to use Voronoi diagrams in biometric image synthesis:

(a) The Voronoi diagram can be effectively controlled by the appropriate choice of metric space as well as by means of simple parameters such as weights, scale factors, etc. These can be used as fitting parameters in tilings and in other geometrical constraint problems.
