ABSTRACT
Since its earliest use magnetic tape has been constantly evolving: paper backing has given way to polyester base films, chemical technology has advanced allowing higher performing particles to be used. It is true to say that many of the advances in recording formats would not have been possible if the associated advances in magnetic tape technologies had not also taken place.
