ABSTRACT

This conclusion presents some closing thoughts on the concepts covered in the preceding chapters of this book. The book presents a comprehensive framework that addresses key issues in the synthesis, testing, and reconfiguration of digital microfluidic biochips. It explores conventional integrated circuits synthesis methods and applied them to an emerging technology area, namely biochips based on microfluidics arrays. The book discusses biochip-specific CAD problems that incorporate device properties and constraints unique to droplet-based microfluidics. It also presents the first attempt to define a fault model, develop a test methodology, and solve the test planning problem for digital microfluidic biochips arrays. The book proposes different reconfiguration techniques and the corresponding defect/fault tolerance schemes for digital microfluidic biochips. It explains a number of exciting directions for research in the emerging area of biochip design automation. The book focuses on the digital microfluidic biochips based on electrowetting.
