ABSTRACT

The previous chapter on distribution automation functions (DAFs) presents the different functions for monitoring, reconfiguration, restoration and power quality and customer-based support systems. The formulation and solution strategies are given using optimization techniques or power-flow evaluation algorithms. Several important notable successes have been achieved using the numerical methods, which assume off-line studies in designing an automated distribution system. There remain a large number of problems to be addressed in power systems, especially in distribution system automation, which requires heuristic or intelligence computing.
