ABSTRACT
Chapter 6 has provided the background necessary to understand a variety of photonic devices, the most important of these being optical sources, modulators, and detectors. The source provides the light in the appropriate form, the modulator controls it or impresses information upon it, and the detector receives the light signal and allows that information to be extracted in the form of an electronic signal.
