ABSTRACT
A substation designer must clearly understand the substation owner’s ™re protection objectives before evaluating or selecting ™re protection for a new and existing substation. e utility company or substation owner may have objectives of maintaining electrical supply reliability, operational safety, preservation of the revenue and assets, or compliance with regulatory standards. Each of these objectives may determine or in³uence the type and level of ™re protection that should be selected. e following is a simpli™ed explanation of these objectives.
