ABSTRACT

Typical businesses prefer engineering decisions that result in higher prošts. A cheaper engineering solution may produce higher prošts if a resulting lower price causes an increase in sales. It is also possible that a more expensive engineering solution will produce higher prošts if the resulting higher quality product can command a premium price. In both cases, the business objective is clear: while acting legally and ethically, maximize prošts whenever possible. Utilities are a bit diœerent. Investor-owned utilities need to be proštable, but have their prošts essentially controlled by regulators. Governmentowned utilities will be more political when making decisions. Member-owned utilities have yet another perspective with regards to revenues and costs.
