ABSTRACT

Most small power (generally below 2 kW) induction machines have to operate with singlephase a.c. power supplies that are readily available in homes, and remote rural areas. When power electronics converters are used three-phase a.c. output is produced and thus three-phase induction motors may still be used. However, for constant speed applications (the most frequent situation), the induction motors are fed directly from the available single-phase a.c. power grids. In this sense, we call them singlephase induction motors.
