ABSTRACT
The virtualized IT infrastructure consists of datacenters, clusters, ESXi hosts, virtual machines (VMs), and vApps. It provides a platform for implementing a cloud computing environment. Cloud computing provides on-demand services such as software as a service (SaaS), platform as a service (PaaS), and infrastructure as a service (IaaS). In the VMware vCloud Suite package, vCloud Director (vCD) is such software used to fulfill these requirements. This chapter provides an overview about vCD and illustrates how vCD can be used to develop cloud computing services in the private cloud environment. vCD provides a provider virtual datacenter (vDC), which can be used to define a resource pool for a cloud provider. The resource pool may include datastores, virtual networks, central processing units (CPUs), memory, and so on. The chapter also illustrates the installation and configuration of vCD and focuses on how to create components in vCD.
