ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses the active directory domain services (AD DS) concepts and demonstrates how to install and configure the domain controller for VMware vCloud Suite. In an enterprise, the management of hardware, software, and users can be a tedious task. AD DS is the software for centralized administration. AD DS can be used to store information about the objects in an information technology (IT) infrastructure. There are two types of objects: leaf object and container object. In addition to performing the authentication and authorization tasks, the directory service stores information about applications that are used to support the cloud services. It contains the application configuration information, network configuration information, and so on. It eliminates the installation of a physical server and a network linking the server to other computers. With the AD DS service, the domain controller can provide the directory service that performs authentication and authorization for remote access.
