ABSTRACT
The previous chapter introduces a variety of processors and explains the fetchexecute cycle that programmable processors use. This chapter continues the discussion by focusing on the set of operations that a processor can perform. The chapter explains various approaches computer architects have chosen, and discusses the advantages and disadvantages of each. The next chapters extend the discussion by describing the various ways processors access operands.
