ABSTRACT
This book starts with a brief introduction to semiconductors, including a very short course about solid-state physics, which is helpful to understand the further details. Of course, these fields of science are the subject of many excellent text books. Our description follows to some extent Ref. [1], which contains an excellent in-depth discussion of these topics. See also Chapter 3 of [2].
