ABSTRACT

Second-order differential equations have many engineering applications. These include free vibration analysis with simple and damped mass-spring systems, resonant and non-resonant vibration analysis, with modal analysis, time-varying mechanical forces or pressure, fluid-induced vibration such as intermittent wind, forced electrical and mechanical oscillations, tidal waves, acoustics, ultrasonic and random movements of support. This chapter explains the procedure to solve second-order differential equations of the form a d 2 y d     x 2 + b d y d x + c y = f ( x ) https://s3-euw1-ap-pe-df-pch-content-public-p.s3.eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/9781315265025/32d5cfd0-baa8-4b1a-becf-b9f4b9ca74c1/content/eqn567_1a.tif"/> for different functions f(x)
