ABSTRACT

Great progress has been made in the engineering and scientific disciplines regarding the use of iterative methods for linear systems. In engineering it is important to solve any equation; iterative methods, such as the bisection method, an algebraic method of successive approximations, and the Newton-Raphson method. The advantages of Newton's method over the algebraic method of successive approximations is that it can be used for any type of mathematical equation, and it is usually easier to apply than the algebraic method. There are many different types of equations used in every branch of engineering and science. There are straightforward methods for solving simple, quadratic and simultaneous equations; however, there are many other types of equations than these three.
