ABSTRACT

This chapter presents an introduction to the use of Excel in "the cloud" as well as integration with other cloud applications that the engineer or technology professional might find useful. Cloud computing is focused on several dimensions of computing for both commercial and consumer use, mostly in the context of midrange and minicomputer platforms. The chapter focuses on flexible computing services like Office 365, Microsoft Azure, and Amazon Web Services (AWS) as their business models allow customers to adjust their resource needs as demand fluctuates. Microsoft's Office 365 product is a collection of software capabilities ranging from simple use of the Microsoft Office suite of tools to an Enterprise set of tools that include corporate E-mail, Social Enterprise, Collaboration tools, and several others. Office 365 supports both a locally installed version of MS Excel as well as an online instance of MS Excel called, oddly enough, Excel Online.
