ABSTRACT

Discussions of active learning span a vast literature, including theoretical frameworks, conferences and resources from supporting professional organizations, classroom techniques, the exploration of social and ethical issues, and related physics and mathematics resources. This chapter presents an annotated list of references that provides starting points for additional reading in each of these areas. Several different approaches and techniques have emerged over the years to encourage and support active learning. The following identifies some of the widely-reported efforts: lab-based pedagogy and the inverted classroom, peer instruction (PI), the use of clickers, and process-oriented guided inquiry learning (POGIL), and team-based learning (TBL). Two references provide a standard for ethical behavior for professionals within the computing field: The ACM Code of Ethics and Communications of the ACM.
