ABSTRACT

The Chapter covers a brief description of the correlations related to the iron-making process and the quality parameters of agglomerates. Relative merits and demerits of the usage of pellets vis-à-vis sinter, also their behavior in the direct and indirect reduction processes, have been outlined. One important aspect of the usage of agglomerates in the ferrous extraction process lies in the fact that the quality parameters of agglomerates could be regulated—the possibility in this direction is mentioned. These are typically through the control of alumina content, agglomerate basicity, and its MgO. The empirical relationships for the productivity and coke rate in terms of the variables related to agglomerates, established against different furnaces, have been outlined.
