ABSTRACT

Oil refiners should be staffed appropriately so that they can have the necessary manpower resources to conduct timely routine maintenance on equipment when required and execute well-planned, capital-effective turnaround maintenance for catalytic reforming process units satisfactorily. Good planning and execution of incident-free, cost-effective, successful process unit and refinery turnaround maintenance projects are of utmost importance. Planning for the next turnaround maintenance of catalytic reforming process units should start after the completion of the last turnaround and startup. The management of platinum is important, and oil refiners should strive to operate cost-efficient platinum catalyzed processes such as light naphtha and butane isomerization processes, benzene saturation processes, and catalytic reformers. With respect to fresh catalyst and platinum acquisition cost, a reference case example of 75 Millions of barrels of oil per day continuous catalyst regenerative platformer operating at 4500 pounds per hours is used for estimation of initial reformer catalyst fill cost.
