ABSTRACT

Penetrant inspection may be accomplished on a variety of materials, ferrous and nonferrous metals as wefl as glass, polymers, and ceramics. Irregularly shaped parts that may be very difficult to inspect with the other techniques may be in some cases conveniently inspected with penetrants. Disbonds in layered composite materials and leakage in pressure vessels and piping may also be detected using these methods. The need in penetrant inspection for surface exposure of the defects or anomalies, however, must always be recognized.
