ABSTRACT

The type of penetrant inspection system that is used depends on a number of factors. The size and shape of the part may determine whether the materials are applied by immersion or spray, or some other process. Whether there is one part to be inspected, or several thousand, will determine the handling procedure as well as the inspection process. Immersion is more amenable to the inspection of large quantities than are spray techniques. Additionally, any chemical reaction between the penetrant materials and the part being inspected must be considered. Lastly, but of considerable importance, is the sensitivity of the chosen penetrant inspection method. The materials in this section will describe the various inspection systems that use the materials and methods discussed in previous sections.
