ABSTRACT
The aim of this chapter is to analyse the dynamical behaviour of structures with many degrees of freedom. The term 'degrees of freedom' has already been referred to in previous chapters. Briefly, it is equal to the number of independent coordinates or measurements required to define completely the configuration of the structure at any instant of time; in other words, it is equal to the number of independent types of motion possible in the structure.
