Introduction

As has been demonstrated in the previous chapter, some loss of energy is inevitable in the flow of any real fluid. In the case of flow in a hori­ zontal uniform pipeline this is evidenced by the fall of pressure in the direction of flow. Clearly, an ability to predict the energy loss per unit length is essential to efficient pipeline design.
