ABSTRACT
Another useful purpose served by this type of weir is the lessening of the bed gradient of a river. The detritus which is brought down accumu lates at the weir and must be periodically removed. A larger version is the check dam that is sometimes installed on steep mountain rivers for the interception of boulders.
