ABSTRACT
Simple harmonic motion occurs whenever the displacement of a body from a position of equilibrium gives rise to a harmonic restoring force, i.e. a restoring force which is proportional to the displacement. In the absence of dissipative forces, the oscillations which occur are sinusoidal with a period which is independent of the amplitude of the motion.
